Three States of Matter...

On Tuesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about the 3 states of matter...

I set up the sensory table in the morning with Kinetic Sand!  We reviewed that Alfred Nobel invented dynamite and that it was use to help making demolition and making tunnels in the ground easy and more efficient!

Our circle time songs!  Freezing and Melting to the instrumental song on our MGT CD!

We discussed how liquids take the form of the container they are in, and solids do not.

Glue...is it a liquid or a solid?  Can we make it a solid?  How?

We made glue designs on wax paper and decorated them with sequins.  We also added a piece of yarn so that we can hang them up on our window when they dry!

Paint...is it a solid or a liquid?  How can we make it a solid?  

I froze finger paint in an ice cube tray the night before!

The kids had a BLAST finger-painting with the frozen paint and feeling it melt in their hands!  The melting process turned the paint back into a liquid!

Why is a solid a solid?  Why is a liquid a liquid?  We learned all about the placement of molecules when it comes to the 3 states of matter!  The kids were challenged to show their knowledge on and off this activity mat that MGT provided us!

The "Sid the Science Kid" book actually talked about molecules!  The other book was excellent as well!

 For snack we made heavy whipping cream in whipped cream for snack!  It was so much fun for the kids to watch this change take place!

The kids also made whipped butter by sharing the duty of shaking the whipping cream in a small container!

The kids ate the homemade whipped cream with pound cake and fresh berries!

 The next morning the kids spread the butter on homemade whole wheat chocolate chip pancakes that I made for breakfast!  We also topped our pancakes off with leftover whipped cream!  Yummy!

On a side note...

The kids invented this game and thought of the name "Around the World" on their own as well!  Their goal is to get from one end of the playground to the other without touching the ground!  I love how creative and inventive this group of kids are!  They are constantly coming up with new games to play and they always think of a name for each game too!
