Childcare Philosophy

My philosophy to childcare is a hands on approach aimed at developing a love for learning for each child.  I believe in providing a childcare where the foundation of the children's environment is safe, loving and respectful.  I also believe that it is my duty to go above and beyond safety, love and respect.  I strive to create an environment that is rich with hands-on experiences and learning activities.  I do my very best to provide a balance between cognitive lessons and much needed developmentally appropriate play.   I believe children learn from me, from their peers, and from themselves. I am able to accomplish this approach by fostering a responsive teacher-child relationship and by implementing a nationally recognized curriculum.

Quality caregivers never stop learning.  I believe in being a provider who constantly evaluates my program, the children and their needs.  I regularly attend conferences, read journals, and exceed training requirements.  I am a member of our Minnesota Licensed Family Childcare Association, and the Dakota County Licensed Family Childcare Association.  I am currently enrolled in the MN Parent Aware Program and am working on receiving a four star rating in the future.  My trainings are always up to date, and reflect a high level on my career lattice through the Minnesota Center for Professional Development.

My philosophy towards discipline starts with respect.  I respect all children and their individual feelings and experiences.  I model good behavior by using positive reinforcement.  I encourage positive choices through the use of time-outs or redirecting disruptive behavior.  Most importantly, I understand the core developmental principles of the children in my care which give specific reason to age appropriate behaviors.

I am a member of Providers Choice; a federal program of the USDA.  Being that I participate with this program my philosophy speaks clearly of my stance on overall health and nutritious meals.  I take pride in the foods I offer on a daily basis.  We eat a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains.  A large portion of my meals are homemade rather than store bought.  I also only serve fresh or frozen produce rather than canned.

I believe in good parent/provider communication.  The ability to listen, to understand and communicate ones needs to others is essential.  Not only do I believe in building good communication and language skills through my interaction with the children, I also take pride in the stories and daily activities shared with the parents of those children.

As a early childhood educator and an in-home provider, I am very loving, accepting, and professional.  I truly enjoy the children in my care.  Helping children to grow into productive citizens, friends, neighbors and future parents themselves is the most important and rewarding job there is. I want to bring smiles to the children's faces and nurture their curiosity daily.  If you share these same beliefs, please call to set up a time where we can discuss the next available date for enrollment.
