Welcome back from break everyone!!! Today was a VERY exciting day! We had our first day in the BRAND NEW Sweet Smiles Preschool!!! We also started our new Mother Goose Time unit for the month of August: Science Lab!
Today our Mother Goose Time lesson was all about properties of matter...
Throughout the day we used our 5 senses to really explore different properties of matter! In the morning I set out new homemade scented play-dough for the kids to explore with using their sense of sight, sound, smell, and touch!
I also filled the sensory table with water and our NEW beakers that Mother Goose Time provided for us this month. I challenged the kids to see how many small beakers it took to fill one large beaker.
At circle time we sang, "Step In the Circle" (tune of "Skip to My Lou"). We identified different properties of matter in the song (ex: red clothes, soft hair, brown eyes, etc.)
We also danced to a new song on our new MGT CD "Too Hot to Touch!" We discussed different safety rules for the inside of a science lab!
The kids explored 3 different types of fruit using their sense of touch, but NOT their sense of sight! They predicted what each fruit was before opening the bags...
Then we used our sense of taste to further explore the fruit! The kids wanted this for their morning snack, so I ended up cutting up even more fruit for them.
Next, we used our sense of smell and made "SPICY NAMES!" The kids used a q-tip to paint their name on new name tags that MGT provided us. Then they explored multiple jars of spices, and chose their favorite to sprinkle on their name.
Of course, the kids were curious about tasting the spices!
The kids played a fun sensory version of "Simon Says" with this new sensory spinner that MGT provided us!
The kids worked on the cover page to their new monthly journal.

Mother Goose Time provided us with this new book for the month of August! We will read from this book throughout the upcoming weeks. Today we read about Alfred Nobel and that he invented/discovered dynamite!!! Alfred Nobel also created the Nobel Prize!
Nora couldn't wait to get her hands on our new science pocket chart full of science words! Nora's Mom is a scientist and she is definitely excited to be learning all about science this month!
The kids started playing in our new dramatic play lemonade stand today as well! They LOVE it!
