Trucks...

Our Mother Goose lesson on Wednesday and Thursday was all about trucks...

Before I begin I have to mention that G.P.'s Dad brought us muffins on Veteran's Day!  Being a Veteran himself, I felt it should have been a day that I bought him breakfast, but instead he was serving others once again.  Thank you M for your generosity!  The kids loved choosing their own muffin!!! 

The kids worked on the letter T page in their literacy workbook...

They also practiced reading and then searched for W's in a mini W book from their literacy workbook....

The kids practiced their counting and number recognition by playing Memory with these transportation and number cards from their math workbook.  They matched the number of wheels up the same number.

For this activity the kids turned the numbers face down.  The kids chose a number and then placed the same number of children in line at the bus stop.  They liked acting this one out!

Next, the kids worked on the letter C page from their journal.  They drew a large letter C road and then completed the sentence, "The car is going to..." (park).

On Thursday the kids started the morning working on this measurement activity from their math workbook...

For our craft on Thursday the kids worked on building these paper trucks!  The kids LOVED this one!

Once their trucks were complete the kids experimented with what fits and what doesn't fit inside their truck.

Then I introduced this learning station to the kids that they could use with their new truck craft.

The houses with letters on them all had pockets on the front for the kids to deliver and place the pictures inside.  The kids loaded up the photo cards in their truck craft and then determined what letter each word started with.  Each photo card also had a picture of a box on the back with the correct beginning sound letter.  This made it easy for the kids to check their work.  We all thought this was a super fun activity!

Mother Goose also provided us with this "Wheels & Ramps" science card...

I set up four different ramps in our blocks center for the kids to experiment with.  I also encouraged them to build their own ramps!

Mother Goose also provided us with this "Bridge Design and Construction" idea photo.  I set out the trains and planes manipulatives that Mother Goose provided us this month, the colored blocks that Mother Goose provided us last year, lot's of roads made from strips of paper, and our rainbow blocks from Lakeshore Learning.  I explained to the kids that bridges need to be strong enough to hold the weight of all the different types of transportation.  I challenged them to build a bridge with the strips of paper that was strong enough to hold the trains and planes.  The first photo on the poster gave an example of a bridge that was not very strong.  The other photos gave examples of stronger bridges.

The kids were so happy when they were successful!

I love watching them think...

In the afternoon I took out these theme posters from last year's Mother Goose curriculum.  I was curious to see how the kids would play with them.  A lot of the kids loved playing on them with our doll people and animals!
