Cars...

Our Mother Goose lesson on Tuesday was all about cars...

 We sang "The Car Wash" to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus."

 Mother Goose provided us with these four magnifying glasses to go along with our theme poster for the month.  I always ask the kids to give me a thumbs up when they have looked and found the object on the poster.  Next I choose one volunteer to use positional words to describe where the object is located on the poster (they are not allowed to point....they can use words such as, above, under, below, beside, between,etc.).

 Each magnifying glass also has questions and movement activities on the back...

 Mother Goose provided us with these supplies to make a car craft.  This one didn't really work for us the way Mother Goose had intended.  The straws were given to be the wheel axles; however, they were way to wobbly to work effectively for play.  The kids and I decided to just glue the four wheels onto the sides of the car.  This was a learning experience for about half of the class because some of the kids glued all four wheels on only one side of the car.  I needed to explain that there are two wheels on each side of a car.  Also the corn was given to represent clean fuel (ethanol).  This was way over the kids level of understanding.  I did my best to explain ethanol and gave the kids the option to the glue the corn on their car if they wanted to.

 After our car craft I challenged the kids to build a parking lot with blocks!  We talked a lot about walking and never running in a parking lot!

 In the afternoon the kids and I played a matching game with this set of upper and lowercase letter cars...

 Lastly Mother Goose provided each child with this mini number, color, and shape recognition activity.  I asked the kids to place all of their cars face down on the floor.  They rolled the die and chose a car from the pile.  They identified what color and shape was on the car that they chose.  Then they pretended to park the car in the same numbered spot as the number they rolled on their die.
