Bikes and Walking...

Our Mother Goose transportation lesson on Monday was all about walking and riding a bike...
I started circle time introducing the kids to a new global friend from China.  We reviewed the continent names and then looked for China on our world map.  I explained that China is considered the bicycle capital of the world.
The kids laid on their backs and pretended to pedal a bicycle as we sang, "Ride Your Bike" to the tune of "Row Your Boat."
Mother Goose provided each child with these vocabulary cards to get them reading and moving.  The kids cut apart the cards and then acted each type of transportation out.
Mother Goose also provided us with this word building Bingo game...
The kids used our transportation manipulatives as markers for their boards (Mother Goose also provided us with colored trains and planes for this month).
Winner! We always make sure to congratulate the winner!
Next we talked about bike safety and why it is important to wear a helmet.  Our bike helmets are packed away for the winter, so we used our construction helmets for pretend.
The next Mother Goose lesson was all about walking on foot...
We passed around the hands-on letter W and practiced tracing it with our finger and saying what sound it makes.
We sang the song, "Skip to my Lou" and acted it out.  We also switched the word "skip" with other traveling words and repeating the song a few different times (walk, run, hop, jump, crawl, etc.)
I took out a w-w-wagon and our letter phonic photo cards.  I encouraged the kids to go w-w-walking with the w-w-wagon.  I challenged to them try to find items in the room that start with W, and see if they fit in the wagon or not.
We also went through our W words in our vocabulary box...
N found a wallet, and Gavin found a wolf and a walrus!
Mother Goose also provided us with this walk and stop sign...

I taped an imaginary road on the floor and we practiced road safety with the provided signs.  We talked about looking both ways, holding hands with a grown-up, and never running off.
The kids loved playing with this stop and go sign during free-play time!
Mother Goose provided us with this craft for the day...

I love it when I catch the tongue out!  Such concentration!

The kids also worked on the letter W page in their journals...

They completed this challenge page in their math workbook...

This was our book for the day...
 During free play time...
These cuties made a road with their bodies!  They thought this was hilarious!
