The Start of our "Food & Fitness" theme! Day 1: Grains...

On Monday we started a new Mother Goose theme: Food & Fitness!
Our first lesson was all about grains...
Mother Goose always provides us with a parent newsletter in every box of curriculum!
This is the weekly breakdown on our new unit..
During circle time we sang, "Out in the fields, the wheat does grow.  Waving in the wind, to and fro.  Shake the wheat and what do you know?  Grain falls out and lands on my toe!"

The heart is the shape we are learning about this month (perfect for Valentine's Day).  We made a heart with our finger in a plate full of oatmeal!

Mother Goose provided us with new name tags!
The kids practiced writing their name.  Then they used the corn kernels to make the letters in their name!

What do you like best on your sandwich?  Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies to make a sandwich craft...
The kids could choose to color with markers, cut and paste colored paper, or paint...

At the end, the kids were given the choice to add oatmeal to the top of their bread...

The kids worked on the following pages in their literacy workbook...

...and math workbook.

Our books for the day...
Which type of grain is the heaviest? Lightest?  We used a scale to compare the weight of 1/2 cup of four different types of grain...

Fun!
I also set out a writing station with a Popsicle stick (writing utensil), whole wheat flour, and grain picture cards...

The flour was also a fun sensory experience!
Lastly, I set out our sandwich making station with some dramatic play supplies!
