On Thursday of last week our Mother Goose lesson was all about racing and running...
I introduced the kids to a new Mother Goose global friend from Jamaica! I explained that some of the fastest people come from Jamaica! They win many gold medals during track events in the Olympics (I also explained what the Olympics are).
We took turns touching Jamaica on the world map and then sprinting to the letter J on the circle time display board, and then back to the world map again. We sang, "Run So Fast" to the tune of "Row Your Boat."
Love this! They are giving each other a high five for encouragement!
We played anther running game with this set of -an words family cards. I taped the words "can, fan, and pan" to different walls in the classroom. The kids rolled the letter cube and placed it on the -an word card. The first person to read the word and race to that matching word on the wall won!
For our next activity, the kids ran for a while in the classroom...
Then we felt our heart beating!
We even felt our friend's heart!
We even looked at a real heart image online! The kids were so shocked and amazed! I also showed them a short video clip of an animated heart pumping.
How do you feel when you win? Lose? What should you do when you win? Lose?
Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies to make a medal!
The kids drew a picture of them playing a sport of their choice and also word the word to match their picture.
They added their own glue and glitter!
Our book for the day...
I also gave the kids their very own set of food group books! They were so excited to take these home and practice reading!
In the afternoon the kids worked on this beginning sounds matching game from their literacy workbook...
The kids have been getting a kick out of working back to back with a friend lately. So cute!
We played a spoon balancing race game with our vegetable counters!
The kids also continued to play with our table setting station and imaginary food...
