Jump...

On Monday our Mother Goose lesson was all about jumping!
We also celebrated S's 4th birthday!!!!
Circle time song, "Jump, Never Stop!" to the tune of "Skip To My Lou."
We played a shape recognition game where the kids were asked to listen to movement directions...
Ex: "Jump over the rectangle, and run around the oval."

Next the kids made a frog headband!  Frogs can jump!  We discussed what other animals jump as well.
I gave the kids options with this craft.  They could choose to paint or just color their frog headband.  Sometimes when we have a dramatic play craft, the kids don't want to paint them because they want to play with them right away.  For this craft, I showed the kids how to use a Ziploc baggie for painting to make the paper look textured!
Sometimes purple frogs are just fun to imagine!

Rolling the frog tongue took a lot of fine motor skills!

A few of the kids drew fly's at the end of their frog tongue!

The kids worked on the letter J for jump in their journals...
"I can jump over a ______."

Mother Goose provided these picture and words cards...
I took out a long piece of fabric for the kids to practice jumping over.  We raised the rope each time and I watched as the kids tried to jump higher each time.

Then we took out the frog headbands.  The kids chose a card.  If they turned over a picture card, they pretended to swim like a frog under the rope.  If they turned over a word card, they pretended to hop over the rope like a frog!

The kids worked on this writing activity from their literacy workbook...

This was our book for the day...
Lastly, the kids were so excited to celebrate S's 4th birthday!!!!
There is so much to celebrate here!  I just LOVE that S did not limit her likes or dislikes to only "girl" cakes!  She was certain she wanted a dinosaur cake, and I was so proud she was confident in her choices!  Way to go S!  She has grown so much this past year!!!

She wanted the volcano!
I sent the kids home with their very own My Plate workbook to work on at home with their parents...
I must add that the kids have been really into blocks lately!  I had just LOVED seeing what they have been building!
