Measuring and Pouring...

On Wednesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about measuring and pouring...
We started out the morning working in our workbooks again...

We learned a lot about lemons and the letter L on this day!!!

We headed upstairs to make a simply syrup for a homemade lemonade recipe!!!  The kids mixed 1 cup sugar with 1 cup water...
I boiled the water and sugar on the stove until the sugar dissolved...
Where did the sugar go???

While our sugar water cooled in the fridge, we worked on the letter L page from our monthly journal.  The kids practiced writing the letter L, and completed the sentence "Lemons are..."  They drew lemons on their page with a yellow crayon and then drizzled glue over the top.  Lastly, they sprinkled lemon zest on the glue to make their lemons textured and scented!

Time to make lemonade!  First we tasted the lemons!  I just LOVE these sweet and sour faces!!!!

Next, we needed to juice the lemons...
Using our muscles!!!

We mixed a 1/2 gallon of cold water, with the sugar water from before, and 1 cup of lemon juice!  This homemade lemonade was DE-LI-CIOUS!!!!
The kids poured their own lemonade...

...and then we played a drinking game!  Yup, a preschool drinking game!  Don't worry...it was G rated!  :)
I put all the items from our letter Ll, Gg, and Jj alphabet tubs in a basket (these are the letters we are learning about this month).  I pulled one item out at a time.  If the item I showed the kids started with the letter L, they could take a sip of lemonade.  We sorted the objects as I pulled them from the basket as well.

YUMMY!!!
Next, we played with these ADORABLE materials that Mother Goose provided us!   The kids LOVED playing lemonade stand!

We had the idea to tear or cut pieces of yellow paper to add to the cups for pretend lemonade!

We worked on these pages from our math workbook just before lunch time...

This was our book for the day...
In the afternoon I set out a few Valentine's Day themed learning stations...

I also set out this measuring and pouring exploration station.  I filled the blue and purple containers with water.  The kids poured each pitcher into the clear larger pitcher and measured the amount.  At the end they learned that both the blue and purple pitchers contained the same amount!  We discussed why that was.

  1. Great idea about using yellow pieces of paper for pretend lemonade! My girls would love that! I have the same Lakeshore Learning alphabet tubs. I need to set up a letter sort as well! Love your measuring and pouring exploration station! Just ordered me one on amazon! :) I like that Learning Resources include science cards with their sets.
