On Friday our Mother Goose lesson was all about the trunk of a tree...
We started out the morning working on this basic addition activity from the kids math workbook...
We worked on the floor so the kids could have enough space to build their math problems with the provided materials...
The kids also worked on this shape activity from their math workbook...
Lastly, this rhyming activity from their literacy workbook. Please continue to work on rhyming at home!!!!
During circle time the kids passed around our shape for the month. We traced the edges of the rectangle and talked about how it has two short sides and two long sides. It also has four corners and four sides total.
What shapes do you see on a tree? Can you build a rectangular shaped tree trunk?
The kids had fun dancing and singing to "Shake your Trunk" to the tune of "Row Your Boat."

Next I passed out these pre-cut Friendly Bee Badges that Mother Goose provided for each child. Honesty is our Friendly Bee word we will be learning this month. I explained that if you are honest and tell the truth, people will always trust you and believe what you say.
Next we discussed what types of animals we think live in tree trunks. I explained that even a dead tree that is still standing in a forest is actually a great home for insects and various animals! Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies to make a "Tree Surprise" craft. The kids LOVED this one!

I cut apart the brown paper to make rings. The kids explored arranging the rings to make it look like the inside of a tree trunk.
We also explored a real piece of wood cut from a tree...
Placing the rings in order form smallest to largest...
Mother Goose also provided us with these shape design mats and new pattern blocks!
I guided a few of the kids with this as the rest watched. Then I left the supplies out for them to explore with. They were so excited to play...little did they know they were learning!
The kids also explored making their own shapes and pictures with the pattern blocks...
This was our book for the day...
On another note...the kids were so EXCITED! We placed stamps on our postcards from our "Friends and Feelings" unit and placed them in the mailbox. The kids sent their "Get Well Soon" postcards to G!!!
What does a rotten apple look like? We investigated the apples we had explored a few days prior. I left them out intentionally so the kids could see how they changed over time.
