On Wednesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about APPLES!!!
The kids started out the morning working in their workbooks:
Adding lemons in their math workbook...
This was a fun counting orange activity. They could flip the numbers 1-6 over to show the numbers 7-12. They were asked to choose a number and then put the same number of oranges on the tree. Being that some orange cards were in groups, they had to really think through this one. I loved it!
They colored and read a new letter A book from their literacy workbook...
During circle time Mother Goose Time had me introduce the kids to a new global friend from Australia! They took turns finding the purple continent on the map and saying "G'day mate!"
Reciting the rhyme "Way Up High in the Apple Tree...."
"Way up high in the apple tree,
two little apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could.
Down came those apples, yum...
they were good!"
Mother Goose provided us with these photo cards of the life cycle of an apple tree...
I turned the cards face down. The kids took turns choosing an apple and placing the cards in sequential order.
Mother Goose provided us with these ADORABLE supplies to make a Johnny Appleseed puppet!
The kids LOVED playing with them!
Next, we taste tested a red, yellow, and green apple!
(Gavin was asked to take very small bites because of his recent tonsillectomy.)
J ate his SUPER fast!
After the kids tasted each apple they filled out the following chart with a happy or sad face.
I posted this chart on the wall for all to see!
Mother Goose provided us with this new book this month! I LOVE it!!!! You can purchase your own copy online at the Mother Goose website!
We had a great discussion while reading this. The colors and pictures were very fun and vibrant!
In the afternoon I set out this apple themed color sorting fine motor activity...
I also set out this letter A search and find activity. The kids hid the letter A apples in the leaves, and asked their friend to search and find them!
What a cutie!
Lastly, I set up an apple orchard and pumpkin patch in our dramatic play area!!!!
Below each tree are matching colored apples. These are sorting attribute apples! They can be sorted by color, by size, by leaf or no leaf, or by worm or no worm!
