Oranges...

On Thursday our Mother Goose lesson was all about oranges...

We started circle time making the letter O for orange with different parts of our body...

We sang, "The Oranges on the Tree" to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell."

The kids started out the morning working in their literacy workbook...

They also completed this shape activity from their math workbook.  I was so impressed with how well they did with this one!

Mother Goose time provided us with the following supplies for a juice cup art project...

I squirted orange and yellow paint on each child's paper.  They blew the paint with their straw and tried their best to make it move!

Then they got their creative juices flowing as they cut and pasted orange and lemon slices from their orange and yellow paper (no pun intended - hahaha!)

They all turned out different and awesome!

Next, we explored ORANGES!!!

Just look at those beautiful eyes!

They ate them all!!!  Wow!  I could not have been happier!

Next we gathered around and discussed how we used all 5 of our senses when exploring the oranges.  Please don't spell check me (i.e. orangey....???) :)  The kids gain a lot of knowledge just by watching me write!

Lastly, Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies for the kids to act out and and play with.  We discussed how the kids think oranges get to the store.  I encouraged the kids to set up a pretend store with blocks, and signs, as well as a pretend farm with other toys.  I asked them to play with the wheel toys (cars, and trucks) and explore different ways to carry the fruit around the room .  I explained that fruit travels from farm, to truck, to store, to our table.  The kids could take turns choosing a fruit card and pretend to pick it form the farm.  Then they could put the fruit gathered in a toy truck or car and drive it to the store and sell for money.
