The start of our In the Orchard Unit...Seeds...

On Wednesday we started our new Mother Goose time unit (In the Orchard) a day early.  The kids and I are SO EXCITED about this theme!  I have been teaching Mother Goose Time since 2007, and this is the first time they have written this theme (that I can remember at least).  It is perfect for Fall time, and helps me not have to supplement with seasonal activities in any way.  I am sure a lot of teachers are excited about this one!  We started our unit with a lesson on seeds...
This is the weekly breakdown of our monthly theme...
I am always thankful Mother Goose provides the parents with a newsletter.  It provides information on what we are learning about, as well as song ideas, activities ideas, suggested reading material, and parenting tips.
Mother Goose also always provides me with a suggested book list for each month.  I am able to check out almost all of my books online and just pick them up when I get my email confirmation!
The kids always get so excited when I switch out our books each month!
The kids worked on a few pages in their new workbooks right away in the morning.
They practiced writing their first and last name in their literacy workbook, and drew a picture of a tree...
They also worked on building sentences with a few high frequency words form their literacy workbook.  The sight words we will be learning this month are: I, have, & a.
Sometimes space is limited at the tables....K is able to spread out more on the floor.

 Friends helping friends...

The kids also worked on this page in their math workbook...

During circle time we sang, "The Tiny Seed" to the tune of "The Muffin Man."
Mother Goose provided us with these materials to make an apple craft...

 We added a brown stem!
Mother Goose provided us with new name tags...
...and this Counting Seeds mat and seed collection.
I set up stations with the provided supplies and a few supplies of my own.
Station #1: Name writing practice with our new name tags.

Station #2: Fine motor practice with our hands-on letters for this month and black beans.  The kids were encouraged to cover the letters with the black beans using the tweezers.
Station #3: Our Counting Seeds mat...
There were circles on the opposite side of our mat to help those who needed more guidance with one-on-one correspondence...

Our numbers for this month are 3 & 4...

Station #4: I set up another fine motor station with an ice cube tray.  I encouraged the kids to use the tweezers to make groups of 3 or 4 with the seeds in the ice cube tray...
Station #5: Lastly, I set up an apple investigation station with apples and their seeds, magnifying glasses, and tweezers...
Here are a few photos of the kids having fun exploring...

This was our book for the day...
For lunch on Wednesday we had homemade chicken noodle soup.  I just love these photos I snapped.  Who doesn't love soup on a cold Fall day?!?
