On Monday was this week our Mother Goose lesson was all about hornets (this was our last lesson about bees)...
The kids started out the morning working from their math and literacy workbooks...
We learned the parts of an insect as we sang the song, "Head, Thorax, Abdomen" to the tune of "London Bridges."
We made the striped of a hornet with our new attribute blocks. I challenged the kids to make their AB pattern of 16 blocks long (the number we are learning about this month).
Mother Goose provided us with this new set of matching cards. The kids definitely sharpened their visual discrimination skills playing Memory with these!
Next, we used this photo that Mother Goose provided us...
...to make the following beehive craft...
First, the kids used colored paper to make a bee to put in their hive. Some of the kids just did not want their bee to be black and yellow, and I was okay with that.
Some of the kids cut their crepe paper streamers into squares and glued patches of it on their hive...
...and some of the kids decided to wrap their beehive with long strips of crepe paper.
They all turned out great, and they were super fun to play with!
Our book for the day...
Mother Goose provided us with new sight words arrows and sentence building words...
I encouraged the kids to "sting" matching words from books in our classroom library. They pretended the arrow was a bee's stinger.
I put magnets on the back of the sentence building words so the kids could make sentences on a metal cookie sheet.
I also left out the attribute blocks and both of the our counting cards for the month for the kids to explore and play with...
