On Monday our Mother Goose lesson was all about welcoming guests into our home!
The kids started out the morning working in their workbooks. They practicing writing and drawing the number 20 in their math workbook...
They also worked on the letters O and P in their literacy workbook...
The letter P page had a fun penny race game that the kids LOVED playing!
During circle time I wrote the words "Welcome Party" on our whiteboard. Two volunteers pointed to the letters O and P in the words and then added those letters on our alphabet house.
They danced in a circle as we listened to "Hello Song" on our Mother Goose Alphabet House CD...
We practiced greeting a guest by shaking hands and saying, "Hello, I'm happy to see you!" We also discussed what we can do to make a guest feel special!
Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies to make a welcome sign for our home!
I told the kids they could cut apart the welcome letters and glue them on their paper or leave the welcome sign the way it was...
The kids added sequins for decoration...
...and colored pictures to make theirs unique from their friends!
Mother Goose provided us with this new version of "Goldilocks" this month. I read this book again to the kids. We shared what our favorite story is, and then we discussed how we can allow our guests to choose their favorite games, stories, or activities of their choice when they are visiting. Doing this will help our guests to feel special and loved!
Next, I read this Little Theatre Script...
I made the kids headbands to act out the play! The three bears were picking berries in the woods (we used pom pom balls for pretend berries)...
Goldilocks discovered a cottage in the woods where there was a BIG MESS! She cleaned up the mess in the kitchen...
She cleaned up the mess of books on the chairs...
Goldilocks even fixed the small broken chair!
Then Goldilocks discovered a mess of blankets. After folding the blankets, she fell asleep...
The bears came home and discovered everything was clean and tidy...
When the bears found Goldilocks, they all screamed and ran in circles! The running became so much fun, that they all became friends!
This was a very attentive and encouraging audience!
The cast took a bow! I encouraged all the kids to act out our play in our dramatic play area during their free play time!
Mother Goose also provided us with this recipe card for making a snack (sandwich) for a guest. Serving a meal or a sandwich to a guest is another way we can help our guests feel special!
I set out the following supplies for the kids to pretend to welcome guests and make a snack for them! They LOVED this!
I bought all of these sandwich making supplies from Melissa and Doug...
The kids even had a matching order form where they could request what they wanted their friend to make for them...
How cute!
Whoa! That is one BIG sandwich!
Then for lunch I had the kids eat buffet style where they could serve themselves and make their very own sandwich for real! This was so much fun!
I love watching these kids be so independent! We talked about how they will go through a line to get food in Kindergarten some day!
I was so proud of these kids! They did a great job! Some of the kids even surprised me with what type of sandwich they made. J put spinach in his sandwich!
K put tomatoes in her sandwich!
This was our book for the day! It is such a cute book, and perfect for what we were learning about today!
FYI - Next month our theme will be "Nature Detectives!" I ordered caterpillars in the mail and they arrived on Friday! The kids will watch these caterpillars turn into butterflies over the next couple of weeks!
