On Tuesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about lodges and dens. For the remainder of the month we will be learning all about animal homes! When I showed the kids this picture of a beaver lodge, one child asked "Where is the door?" That was a really good question! A beaver enters its lodge from underneath.
The kids worked in their workbook as soon as they arrived in the morning. They drew logs for lodges in their math workbook...
Then they practiced writing the letters Q and R in their literacy workbook...
Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies to make a beaver lodge craft...
I also brought in some wood chips from our playground area for the kids to use on their craft...
First I asked the kids to draw the details of their beaver home on their paper with crayons or makers...
They drew a beaver on their wooden spoon! They could choose to glue this to their creation or play with it and imagine what a beaver would do in its home.
After coloring, the kids glued the wood to their paper.
Tuesday's forecast was supposed to be the brightest day of the week, so we decided to make it a water day! While the kids played I taught them that a beaver will slap its tail on the water to warn the other beavers there is danger nearby. The kids took turns being the lead beaver and slapped our splash stick on the water in a certain pattern of their choice. The other kids listened and patted the water back in the same pattern with their hands.
It was fun to see how hard and LOUD the kids could make a slapping sound on the water!
I used all the towels and parachutes to make a beaver lodge under our climbing dome!!!
This was a fun shaded area for them to play in for a while!
Mother Goose provided us with this storytelling set that paired with our book for the month "Goldilocks!" I set these items out for the kids to play with and retell the story with their own words.
Picnic lunch on our towels!
These were our books for today! We also had story-time outside!
I also took out this new magnetic activity tin that I bought from Lakeshore Learning recently.
I took out a few cards so the kids could sort the animals by their habitat (ocean, grassland, desert, and arctic).
J B's family bought us the newest water balloon invention! What an AWESOME invention! If you've ever blown up water balloons, you know how much time this saves!
The kids had a BLAST, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get a lot of pictures! The balloons were gone within minutes, and all the photos I took were a blur. The kids had so much fun though! Thanks again B family!!!!! I will definitely have to buy more of these for another water day!
Fun times and sweet summer memories being made here...
