On Tuesday we were scheduled to learn about living rooms. Mother Goose provides a lesson for every day of the week, but for us this day was predicted to be nearly 90 degrees outside! I wanted to have a water day with the kids, so I did my best to mix in a few lessons while we played! The kids had no idea I was even teaching because we all had so much fun!
Living rooms are a cozy place to hang out. I made a cozy reading nook outside with a few books and a couple of laundry baskets!
Mother Goose provided us with new story sequence cards to go along with our new Goldilocks storybook they gave us this month! The kids could hold up the story cards and retell the book in their own words. The blank card was provided as encouragement to come up with a new beginning or ending to the story.
A few of the kids really enjoyed reading in the sunshine with their towels!
In the living room there is usually a television. I put out a cardboard box (TV) and a remote control. The kids had fun acting and imagining they were on TV!!!!
Who's watching and who's acting now???
Yesterday we learned about doors and windows! I taped white construction paper to the inside of our patio door window. I gave the kids whiteboard markers and a box of tissues and encouraged them to color and write!!! This was a super fun writing station for the kids!
Before nap time we came in and I asked the kids to trace one of their feet on paper.
Then they cut out their foot.
We went upstairs to my living room and I taught the kids how to measure the furniture with their foot cutout. Using unconventional forms of measurement to measure and estimate is something the kids will learn in Kindergarten! The kids compared the height and length of each piece of furniture they measured.
Learning how to mark your place with your finger is definitely challenging to learn! I encourage all parents to work with their children at home on this. You can use any material to measure anything in your home!
This was our book for the day. It was a great book that pointed out many different homes found throughout the world.
Mother Goose also provided us with these postcards to invite a friend over one day. Due to my limits on ratios, I cannot take any visitors. I will save these adorable invitations for a summer get together. I am thinking of having all the families meet for a movie in the park some time this summer! It will take the burden off of me of hosting anything, but still give the families a chance to connect with one another!
It was PURE EXCITEMENT as I inflated the shark slide for the first time this year!!!!
The kids had a BLAST on the slide!
This sweetie was so scared yesterday when I told her we had a shark slide. It took her a total of two minutes, and she was up and down like a champ!!!
"I DID IT!!!!!"
Then I even caught my youngest braving the slide!!!
"Yay!!!!!"
My son...the daredevil!
Squirt gun fight!!!!
She was keeping up with the big kids...
...until they got her...
...I love how she continued to shoot them as she ran away!!!
She had fun shooting...
...but did not like being shot at! Ha!
Reenacting the ice bucket challenge...
Check out that dew!
We ordered pizza for lunch and ate our pizza, fruit, and veggies outside on our towels!
