Bedrooms...

On Friday we had the such a FUN day learning about bedrooms!  Mother Goose out did themselves with the activities they provided for the kids on this day!  Keep reading to see how we stayed busy!
During circle time we took turns "J-J-Jumping" on a blanket that I spread out on the floor with the letter J from our alphabet house.  Then we sang "10 in the Bed" while we counted backwards on our fingers.
"There were 10 in the bed, and the little one said,
'Roll over, roll over!'
So they all rolled over and one fell out.

Repeat until there was 1 in the bed.

There was 1 in the bed, and the little one said,
'I'm cold and lonely"'
So they all jumped back in and fell asleep!
After singing the song with our hands, I read the book to the kids!
I set out the book and a number line for the kids to read on their own throughout the day.
Next I read another well known story about a bed!
"Five Silly Monkeys!"
The kids were so THRILLED to receive their own fold-over book from Mother Goose Time of "5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed!"  This was a fun poster that folds up as each monkey falls off the bed...
"5 little monkeys..."
"4 little monkeys..."
"3 little monkeys..."
"2 little monkeys..."
"1 little monkey..."
"No more monkeys..."
The had fun choosing to read alone...
...or with a friend.

Next, we discussed how we can keep our bedroom clean and tidy.  We sat in a circle around our new dollhouse bed.  I gave directions using positional vocabulary.  A few volunteers carried out the directions while the others listened and helped if needed.
-Place the mattress on top of the bed.
- Fold the blanket in half and place it on top of the mattress.
- Place the pillows near the top of the bed.
-Place the girl between the blankets.
-Place the child beside the girl.

Next, I taught the kids how to correctly fold a small blanket.  Then they practiced on their own...

My oldest son was a little bored at this point, so he folded his blanket like a paper airplane!  I love his inventiveness!
Next, Mother Goose Time provided us with these supplies for an ADORABLE monkey craft!  The kids just LOVED this one!
First they cut apart their monkeys, and their numbered band-aids...
Then they folded their napkin like a blanket...
I gave the kids the option to cut their blanket down in size if they wanted to...
Once their bed was assembled, the kids had fun singing "Five Little Monkeys" with their craft!
We added cotton balls for the pillows!
Next, I took out our dolls, and pillows.  The kids acted out the "Five Little Monkeys" as they pretended the pillows were beds!
A few of the kids had more fun jumping on the pillows themselves, rather than using the dolls...
Next, I took out a die and each child had turn rolling it.
They tried to stack the same number of pillows as the number on the die without having them fall over...

Check out R's proud grin!
After each child took a turn, the kids became super wild and silly!  If you didn't know already, giving a stack of pillows to a bunch of kids can make for a really fun and entertaining time!
They like covering up their friends, and waiting anxiously for them to pop out!
The kids worked on the letter J in their workbook...
...and a color by number activity of a bedroom in their math workbook.
I read the following three books before nap time.
"Five Little Monkeys Reading in the Bed" was very cute!  It makes reading look fun!
"The Napping House" had humorous pictures and a repetitive text.  The kids like it a lot!
"No Jumping on the Bed" was story about a boy that was jumping on his bed and he came crashing through the floors of his apartment building!  (This was great because we learned about apartment buildings earlier this month.)  This book also had repetitive text and engaging illustrations.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
