Lions...

On Monday we worked on our Memory books!

On Tuesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about lions...

 I scattered paper shapes all the over the floor.  I said that lions like to jump/pounce on their prey.  The kids imagined they were hunting shapes.  I named one child at a time and invited them to jump on the shape I called out.  (Oval is the shape we are learning about this month.)

 The we sang "The Lovely Lazy Lion" to the tune of "The Itsy Bitsy Spider."

 What is the loudest sound you have heard?  Can you roar like a lion?  How can we make our voices even louder?  We explored roaring with our microphone....

 When do you have to wait?  How do you feel when you have to wait?

I explained that lions are very patient.  They lay and wait for a good animal to chase.  I gave one lion number card to each child and had them wait patiently on the other side of the room.  I showed one zebra number card at a time.  The child with the same number on his/her lion card ran across the room and pounced on the zebra card.  The other children were asked to sit and wait patiently until their food/number came up.

 The kids had fun with this activity!  I got a few good action shots....

 At the end of our game, we celebrated the kids patience and I awarded each child with a Patient Friendly Bee Badge!

 How big is a lion?  What is big in the room?  What is small?  What size are you?

We discussed size in comparison to other objects.  Then I took out this measurement math station...

 Later we read this participation story...

 The story taught us to be grateful for the way we are and not wish we could look differently.  I love this photo!  The kids giggled a lot through this story!

 Mother Goose provided us with these supplies for a lion mask craft...

While working, we discussed the difference between a male lion and a female lion.  We also discussed that a pack of lions is called a pride, and a pride typically has no more than 3 adult males lions.

 In the afternoon I surprised the kids with NEW safari toys!!!  It was a perfect time to introduce a new toy!  We have not been able to get outside all of Monday and Tuesday because of the negative degree weather.  They had fun and stayed entertained!

 In the afternoon I also took out this leftover Mother Goose craft and song poster from last month's curriculum theme.  The kids LOVED making a star wand that glowed in the dark!
