Huts...

On Tuesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about huts...

We clapped to the beat to the song, "We Can Build" sung to the tune of "London Bridges."

Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies to make a 3D hut craft...

The kids cut their souffle cup to make a door...

Then we added the brown sand to brown paint to make it textured...

The kids colored a safari scene on green paper for a play mat.  I encouraged them to also cut and color other pieces of colored paper to add additional pieces of 3D art to their project.

The kids cut apart their people and folded them to make them stand up.  It was fun to discuss names for the people and whether or not they imagined they were friends or family.  I explained that an African Maasai hut is small and used primarily for sleeping.  We discussed what we use our homes for and compared the two.

K noticed the people made a zig-zag letter Z line when they stood in a row...

L added a safari vehicle to his picture...

K added a giraffe...

G filled up both sides of his paper.  This guy LOVES to color!

G made a flying bird...

These photos were taken the next day when our projects were dry.  The kids had fun playing with their art for a while...

Next, the kids worked on the color yellow page in their monthly journal.  The completed the sentence, "My hut is _____." (Cozy)

This was our book for the day...

In the afternoon I laminated photos of the kids!  The kids were encouraged to play with them as they built huts or other things in our block area.  They were also encouraged to add them to a new story board that goes with our new book, "Giraffes Can't Dance."  The kids LOVE their new pictures!  They have had SO MUCH FUN playing with these!
