On Wednesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about sharing...
As the kids arrived in the morning, I worked one-on-one with them in their monthly journal. They completed the page with the number 1 on it (1 & 2 are the numbers we are learning about this month).
"I only have 1 voice changer (toy)."
"When I share it I feel happy."
The kids also completed the last page in their "My Feelings" book...
Then after breakfast and just before circle time the kids worked on a measuring activity from their math workbook. They measured each friend, and then placed the people in order from shortest to tallest.
They also cut apart shapes and practiced sorting them by color and then by shape...
Lastly, they completed a patterning page...
The kids were SUPER EXCITED for the FIRST DAY OF FALL on Wednesday! We changed our season board during circle time...
For the start of circle time I took our our world map and pointed out Poland to the kids. One volunteer placed a new global friend from Poland on this location.
I explained that Polish children like to play a group beanbag game
called Zoska. I invited the kids to pass around a beanbag using any
body part except for their hands. They tried not to let it drop on
floor. This was quite the challenge for them!
Then we passed around a ball as we sang, "Share With a Friend" to the tune of "Skip to My Lou."
Mother Goose provided us with this new "Keys to Friendship" game...
Before reading we shared how we think good friends treat each other. We read the words carefully on the keys: Patience, Helpfulness, Respect, Generosity, Forgiveness, and Kindness. The goal of the game was to be the first one to collect all six keys!
"Congratulations G!"
For our next activity we shared how we think others feel when we share with them. We also discussed how we think they would feel if we didn't share with them. Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies to make a sharing box. The kids L-O-V-E-D this activity!
First I encouraged the kids to use stickers and other items to decorate their box as desired...
Then I encouraged the kids to write tiny folded notes to place in their box to give to someone of their choice...
Lastly, we headed outside to search our outdoor area for small items or treasures that they would like (pebbles, flowers, leaves, etc.). The kids placed their treasures in the box along with their tiny folded notes. I encouraged the kids to give away the special items inside their box when they felt ready to do so. The kids all took their boxes home, and shared with me the following day who they gave their treasures to.
I love seeing kids out and about discovering nature...
Later the kids worked on the following pages in their literacy workbook...
A letter review maze...
A story discussion and answer activity...
Lastly, a letter k book. The kids read the book and searched for all the letter K's...
After lunch time, I gave each child one piece of yarn. I challenged them to build the letters we have been learning about so far this month: Ff, Pp, and Kk. The kids quickly realized they would need to share their yarn and work as a team to complete this task. We talked about how sometimes "Two heads are better than one!" Working with a team can be beneficial for everyone!
Another letter review activity...
I placed all of our hands-on letters that we have been learning about so far in separate paper lunch bags. We sang songs as we passed the bags around the circle. I told the kids to stop and open their "present" when the song stopped. The kids who had the letter P for "p-p-present" won!
This was our book for the day...
