On Monday our Mother Goose lesson was all about playing together...
On our new circle time display for the year we have something called "Friendship words." With each month of curriculum we will get a new friendly bumblebee with a word that we will concentrate on all month long.
This month we are learning to "bee" respectful!
I gave one person a red paper heart during circle time and each child said one nice thing to the person next to him/her. Then they passed the heart to the person next to them and this continued all the way around the circle.
Mother Goose provided each child with a new "Bee Respectful" badge! I passed these out after we finished saying compliments to each other with the paper heart.
The kids were pretty proud!
Next, Mother Goose provided us with these supplies for a friendship headband craft...
We discussed what we can do to show we can be a good friend (be kind, listen, share, help others, etc.).
Next I had the kids build their own tower with 10 blocks...
After each tower was complete, we stopped and commented on what everyone had created. Then I had the kids combine all of their blocks and build a bigger tower! Being a good friend means that we know how to cooperate in a group setting. After the larger tower was complete the kids could see the benefit of working in a group and having friends to help contribute to the ideas being given!
Next, we went outside and I asked the kids to show me their climbing skills. They loved this! We discussed what parts of our bodies are being using when we climb.
After the kids climbed for a while, I had everyone gather around for story time outside. Mother Goose provided us with this new storybook for the month. It is about an elephant that gets stuck in a tree. The kids in the story brainstorm ideas on how to get the elephant down, but no one was successful. Then the kids combined their ideas and supplies and they were able to get the elephant down by building a big slide! This book demonstrated again how friends, teamwork, and cooperation can benefit everyone!
The kids worked on this page in their math workbook...
The kids worked on this storytelling page in their literacy workbook.
We listened to this book on CD for our second story-time (just before nap)...
