Sad...

On Wednesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about sad feelings...
I worked one-on-one with each child in their "My Feelings" book.  They completed the sentence, "I am sad when ______."
"I am sad when I make a mess."  This child does not like clean up time.
"I am sad when my dad won't buy me new walkie-talkies."
We sang, "If You're Sad and You Know It."
(If you're sad and you know cry a tear...BOO HOO!)
During circle time I set out blue and yellow strips of paper for each child.  We practiced making happy faces and waved the yellow strip in the air.  Then we made sad faces and held up the blue strip.  Next, I invited one child at a time to make a happy or sad face, and the other kids held up the corresponding paper strip to match their friend's feeling.

How do your lips move when you are sad?  We made hand-held mirrors for a craft...

 What a silly girl!

Next the kids worked on the color blue page in their journal (blue is the color we are learning about this month.)  The kids drew a sad face with a blue crayon and then practiced writing the sentence "The girl/boy is sad."

Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies for a tangram shape activity...

We are learning about AB patterns this month!

Next we headed outside for a gross motor activity!  I made a happy face/sad face on a stick.  We played a version of "Red Light, Green Light."  When I held up the happy face, the kids happily skipped towards me.  When I held up the sad face, the kids sat down and pretended to cry.  The kids LOVED this game!

 Happy...
 Sad...
 Happy...
 Sad...
The kids worked on the letter P page in their literacy workbook...

Later on we all sat on the floor and worked on the following two pages in their math workbook...

I love these photos!  Are they so cute?!?!?!

This was our book for the day...
At the end of the day we played the song, "Give a Little Hug" from our Friends and Feeling Mother Goose Time CD.  The kids shared ideas on what to do to help a sad friend feel better.  They acted out their ideas with an animal or toy while we listened to the song,
