Woodwinds...

On Thursday our Mother Goose lesson was all about the woodwinds family of instruments...
We started out circle time experimenting by making noises we thought the wind can make.  Then we sang, "Woodwind Sound" to the tune of "The Muffin Man."
We discussed if it was windy or not on this day, and then I gave the kids straws to explore blowing things again with in the classroom...

Mother Goose provided us with these paper magnifying glasses for our theme poster...
On the back of each magnifying glass....
I always ask the kids to give me a thumbs-up when they can see the object on the magnifying glass.  Then I chose one volunteer to describe where the object is using positional words (above, next, besides, between, etc.)
Our volunteer showed where the magnifying glass matches up to on the poster, and then we answered the questions on the back.
Mother Goose provided each child with this paper flute.  I explained that musicians use their fingers to cover holes on woodwind instruments to make different sounds when they blow.  The kids colored their paper flute, and I helped each child roll and tape it together.  The kids could take turns tossing the color cube and identifying the color on the top.  I encouraged the kids to place their fingers on the flute according to the colors.  If a double color was rolled, the kids could place two fingers on each dot.
I recently purchased these instruction cubes...
Each side of each cube has a pocket.  Now I can cut apart the cubes that Mother Goose provides for us and place them in the instruction cubes.  This way the cubes cannot be crushed if someone accidentally steps or sits on one.  We were all pretty excited about these!

Mother Goose also provided the kids with these supplies to make a kazoo instrument!  These worked AWESOME!  There was a lot of music on this day! :)

The kids worked on the following pages from their workbooks...

Making math addition problems with trumpets...

This was our book for the day...
In the afternoon the kids worked on a Christmas present for their parents...

Can you guess what these photos will be used for?  I can't tell our secret!
