On Monday our Mother Goose lesson was all about stringed instruments...
The kids worked on the following pages from their literacy workbooks...
Next, they completed the number 7 page from their journal. They traced our hands-on number 7, and then cut & pasted 7 pieces of yarn to make it look like a harp.
Then the kids worked on the following pages from their math workbook...
The goal of this game was to get as many matches of different forms of ice as they could before they flipped over the sun. The sun melted their ice and they had to start their game again.
During circle time we sang, "Play the Guitar" to the tune of "Skip to My Lou."
Next, I set out phonic photo cards and hands-on letters that we are learning from this month. The kids were encouraged to cut pieces of yarn to try and build the letters...
Next I let the kids practice strumming on a real guitar. I taught them that a guitar has 6 strings, but a violin has only four strings.
We watched a pretty impressive video of KIDS playing guitar at this website.
Mother Goose provided us with the following extra wide rubber bands. I wrapped them around a toy bucket, and set it out with a die. I encouraged the kids to roll the die and strum the same number of times. They loved this! It was fun to hear music being made by rubber bands!
Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies for each child to make a cardboard violin. I prepped each child's violin for them....
I made a video of the kids playing to the "String Symphony" on our Mother Goose Time CD. They did so great!!!
Another great book recommendation from Mother Goose Time...
Mother Goose also included this stringed snack recipe card for par of our lesson for the day...
The kids had fun making an edible guitar snack!
In the afternoon I took out our NEW Lakeshore Learning tabletop easel! The kids playing Pictionary with photo cards that I provided! They LOVE our new easel!
