Germs...

Our next Mother Goose Time lesson was all about germs!
We practiced good hygiene by giving the baby dolls a bath in the sensory table!  The kids LOVED this!

Dancing with Kleenexes during a circle time song!

Our first germ lesson was all about how easily germs can spread.  The kids pressed their hand into a pan of flour.  We pretended the flour was germs...
Then they pressed their hands on something else...
...and saw how the germs were left behind!

Next, Mother Goose Time gave us an activity sheet to also demonstrate this concept.  The kids first painted their hand with paint...
They pressed their hand on the side of their paper that said "clean...."
Then they gave their friends a high-five and saw how the "germs" transferred from friend to friend...

Then the kids pressed their hands on the side of their paper that said, "Dirty..."
 Wow!  Germs spread fast!

 Time to wash up!

Next, we did a science experiment that demonstrated how germs do not like soap!
I sprinkled pepper in a bowl of water...
Then we squirted Dawn dish soap into the bowl, and the "germs" instantly spread out out to the sides of the bowl!  WOW!  Germs definitely don't like soap!

We did this one over and over again.  The kids LOVED watching it!
Next, we learned about red blood cells, and white blood cells.  The kids learned that white blood cells work like superheros and fight the bad germs in our body.  MGT provided the kids with red pipe cleaners, red beads, and white straws.  I encouraged the kids to cut the white straw and string a pattern on their red pipe cleaners.  We turned our work of art into a bracelet to bring home and remind the kids to talk to their parents about what they learned about today!

This was our book for the day...
We also did a fingerplay with germ finger puppets.
On this day we also celebrated Ryker's 5th birthday!!!!
