On Thursday we PAINTED A TON!!! Thank you Mother Goose Time for all the fun ideas!
The kids started out the morning working on basic addition and subtraction in their math workbook...
...and beginning sounds in their literacy workbook.
I made an American flag themed breakfast for the kids! Strawberry smoothies, and toast with bananas, blueberries, and strawberry jelly.
During circle time we scoped out our theme poster again. This time we looked for colors of all different shades (most especially in the trees).
We listened to the song, "Run to Colors" on our Mother Goose Nature Detectives CD. The kids had to find the colors listed and touch them with a certain part of their body. "Run to the color blue. Can you touch it with your shoe?..."
Mother Goose provided us with these materials for a painting activity today...
I taped green painter's tape on each child's piece of paper in the shape of trees...
They used their pom pom ball and clothespin to dob paint on their paper.
I encouraged the kids to paint their whole paper.
Next, we were excited to paint with nature at our new easel! I scored this BRAND NEW easel on Craigslist for a really great price! The kids found pieces of nature and dipped them in paint. They used nature as their paintbrushes!
The kids thought it was so super cool that the paint made the leaves and wood chips stick to the paper like glue...
Next I taped some cool designs on large poster paper. I squirted red, blue, and silver glitter paint on plates and provided kitchen brushes to paint with.
When the kids used the kitchen brushes as paintbrushes the paint marks looked like fireworks!
Nothing says USA like purple glitter paint, but you get the idea and the kids love mixing colors!
We had an American classic for lunch! (Uncured, nitrite and nitrate free.)

After lunch our paintings were dry so we peeled off the tape. The kids were SO EXCITED! They were saying things like, "This is AWESOMENESS!" "This is the best day ever!" "Whoa SO COOOOOOOL!" They just loved it! I got such a hoot watching their reactions!
That is A LOT of painting that we completed in just one day!
This was our book for the day...
In the afternoon I gave the kids red, white, and blue Bomb Pops. They crack me up...EVERY TIME I give out Popsicles the kids sort themselves according to the color of their Popsicle. This time they were all the same, so they sorted the groups by gender. Boys on one side, and girls on the other. I think it is so funny that they always are showing a math skill and are not even aware of it!
