Work...

On Thursday of last week our Mother Goose lesson was all about the bee's work...
We reviewed the letter B as we acted like Bees!
We sang, "Working Bees" to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell."
What dangers might a bee encounter while flying from flower to flower?  Wasps, cars and humans all create dangers for worker bees.  We made a beehive using a blanket.  I pretended to be a queen bee and assigned each child a special shape gathering job.  For example, "Fly to the hexagon and then jump with it back to the hive."  I watched to see how well the kids understood the directions and could complete the task without having to repeat myself.

The kids worked in their math and literacy workbooks...

Mother Goose provided us with the following supplies to make a hexagon shaped bee hive...

The kids loved the sparkly bee stickers!

The kids also used the stencils to complete the hexagon page in the monthly journal.  They completed the sentence, "In the honeycomb is a ______."

Mother Goose provided us with this beautiful new counting book!  We discussed ways we can be helpful like bees.
In the afternoon, I introduced the kids to our new number 15 counting card...

The kids also used these Mother Goose supplies to play a number recognition name...
The kids spun the spinner and placed a piece of "pollen" on the matching numbered flower...
During nap time this special girl lost her 2nd tooth!!!!  How exciting!!!

In the afternoon...
Those Mr. Potato Head glasses really can help with the artistic point of view! Ha!

The magnatiles have been a really big hit lately!

Babies...

On Wednesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about baby bees...
The kids started out their day working in their math and literacy workbooks...

During circle time we reviewed one of the numbers of the month.  We lined our hands-on number 15 with yellow pom-poms that Mother Goose provided us...
We sang, "Clean the Hive" to the tune of "Skip to My Lou."
We were given a new set of paper magnifying glasses to match pictures up to our monthly theme poster...
Each magnifying glass also provides ideas, questions, and activities on the back to the get the kids involved and moving!
Mother Goose also provided us with these supplies to make a new bee headband for dramatic play!

These are some adorable busy bees!

Next, I took out play-dough.  I encouraged the kids to mold the different stages of a bees life cycle (egg, pupa, adult).

 Our books for the day...
G.C. brought this book in to share...
In the afternoon I took out play dough again and encouraged the kids to make a honeycomb with the yellow Bingo chips that Mother Goose provided for us this month.

Food...

On Tuesday our Mother Goose lesson was all about food for the bees...
During circle time we reviewed the color we are learning about this month: black!  Each child took a turn with our black paintbrush and flew over to something black in the room as they said the "Buzz" sound.  We also sang the "B-L-A-C-K" song...this is definitely a color favorite!

Next we used these cards that Mother Goose provided for us as we sang, "Look Inside the Honeycomb" to the tune of "London Bridges."

The kids worked in their workbooks...

What color would you be if you were a bee?  The kids drew a picture of themselves as a bee on the cover of their new monthly journals...
They also completed the back cover of their journals.  They were asked to make the butterfly symmetrical by completing the shapes on the other side of the butterfly.
 Our books for the day...
Yesterday was a very rainy spring day.  We discussed how "April showers bring May flowers!"
In the afternoon the kids filled this honeycomb poster with yellow Bingo chips.  They drew a flower card, identified the number, and then counted and placed that many chips on the honeycomb.  They drew as many flower number cards as it took to fill the honeycomb.

I took our a new CD storybook.  I love seeing them all huddled together reading!
Lastly, I set out an ice cube tray, water, and eyedroppers that Mother Goose Time provided us.  The kids worked on their fine motor skills as they squeezed the water into the ice cube tray.  They pretended the eyedroppers were bees, the water was nectar from a flower, and the ice cube tray was a honeycomb.
