Growth & Check-Ups...

On Wednesday our Mother Goose lesson were about growing and our yearly Doctor check-ups...
On Wednesday the kids did a lot of measuring.  We measured different objects in the room...
 ...and compared our results.
 We also measured our friends...

Then the kids completed a dog growth chart activity.  They drew pictures of different items in the room and in order from smallest to biggest, and wrote each measurement next to each drawing!  I was so impressed with how hard they worked on this one!

We learned from our new rhyme time poster!  Jack Be Nimble...
What does it mean to be nimble?  Can you be nimble?
Is it safe to jump over a candlestick?  What is safe to jump over?
We practiced jumping over different objects.
What letters and words can you recognize on the poster?
What rhyming words can you identify?
We also played a game of Domino's with pictures of different kids of varying abilities staying active and healthy!

The kids and I also talked about the importance of going to the doctor each time we have a birthday...
I let the kids choose how they wanted to make their own doctor bag.
S wanted to paint hers...
 ...and use paint dobbers. :)
Some of the kids wanted to put their band-aids on them and act like they were hurt...

I think this project may have gotten him over his fear of band-aids!  :)
K wanted to make her doctor bag a vet bag!
G is assembling his bag by taping the sides...

This book reminded the kids that their parents love them no matter no big they grow!
I have to share how impressed I was with the kids and our new rubber band boards that Mother Goose provided us this month...

Kick, Toss & Catch, and Bake & Cook...

I am trying my best to wrap up our Mother Goose Food & Fitness theme for the month of the February.  I have a hard time not using all the wonderful resources that Mother Goose provides for us, so this week has been a lot of mini-lessons per day.  On Tuesday of this week we learned about the following...
We started the morning outside!  You can't see in the photo, but the snowflakes were huge and I didn't want the kids to miss out on this!  We practiced jumping from Monday's lesson, and then tried running and jumping.  We compared our results.

When we came back inside, the kids worked on a bilingual book about what is appropriate to kick and what is not...

Our next mini lesson was on throwing and catching...
Mother Goose provided each child with their own catch-it cup to color and play with!

The kids loved these!  They were pretty good at them too!

Next, we practiced reading -an words from our literacy workbooks...
I set out a new pattern building station...
Wow!  They created their own pattern and named it as an AABBCC pattern!  I was so impressed!
Next, we learned the importance of stretching when exercising!
Mother Goose provided this fun stretching exercise spinner!

The kids especially loved "the Superman" stretch!

Rubber Bands are also stretchy!  Mother Goose provided us with this fun new learning station!  The kids are already familiar with these rubber band boards, but Mother Goose provided us with a circular one and photos to copy as well!

 Our books for the day...
After our story time, I passed our our "Be Kind" badges!  I praised the kids for showing kindness all month, and encouraged them to keep it up!
Just before nap time the kids had time to exercise with our monthly Dance 'n' Beats DVD!
In the afternoon I set out this pizza activity from our Bake & Cook lesson...

The kids LOVE crafts that can be used for dramatic play as well!

A few of the kids played our My Plate game while they waited for parents to arrive...
Building shapes at the light table.  These guys were pretty proud of their creations!
